Utkal Bipanna Sahayata Samiti (UBSS),oDISSA

The Utkal Bipanna Sahayata Samiti (UBSS) was established in 1982 as a voluntary Organisation to serve the destitute. It is registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860, India bearing registration No. 18869/9 of 1982-83.

The UBSS is a network of dedicated volunteers drawn from varied walks of life. It works with many other like-minded organisations from where it gets disciplined work force to carry out rescue, relief and rehabilitation work in a systematic way.

It made its first valued contribution in the aid of cyclone affected people of the state Orissa in the year 1982 itself. Since then it has been working for the social welfare & upliftment of the downtrodden and underprivileged.

Be it flood, cyclone, famine, sunstroke or any form of natural calamity or accidents, the dedicated volunteers of UBSS have fought against all odds to reach the people in their hours of crisis.

Function?
UBSS is an organization mostly run by dedicated social workers, eminent persons of social recognition & volunteers heralding from all sections of the community, working together to Serve the Humanity.
Activities & Projects :

Relief and Rehabilitation:
RELIEF During Natural Calamities
Nature makes man threats to mar man. As such man is succumbed to calamity natural or man-made. At such juncture man is badly victimized and distressed. In this hour of ordeals our organization has rushed to the spot to rescue the man in danger caused by Flood, Cyclone or Storm, Fire or Furry or any Road accidents or Communal riots. We have rendered the service risking the life of our volunteers to quench the thirst and hunger of the people awaiting surrounded by the flood water and to rescue them from furious fire during Arson.

Sri JaganNath Niketan – Orphanage
Under the umbrella of the Organization we have 4 Orphanages, under which 69 inmates are enjoying their education, care and protection with homely bliss. To be clear, the orphanage cares to prepare them for self-reliance and self-dependent living as a respectable person of the society with cherishing hope. We over spontaneously entitled these Orphanages as Sri Jagannath Niketan, not to make them feel segregated or caste aside.

Matru Nilaya-Shelter Home for abandoned Children
This unit as the emissary of love, affection, care and protection takes the unwanted and abandoned new born children to its blossom to promise them motherhood and fatherhood. Matru Nilalya is the out come of such a noble thought and spirit has come to existence during February 2006.

ASHRAY STHAL-Shelter House
The main objective of constructing multipurpose shelter houses at various places in the coastal area of Orissa is to provide shelter during the natural calamities like flood, cyclone. Apart from that the shelter houses can be used for various social activities.

A brief Account of the Project
1. A multipurpose shelter house at Narua in the coastal area in the district of Jagatsinghpur has been constructed.
2. Another shelter house is under construction at Udala in the District of Mayurbhanj
Health Seva:

“Health Care Services” is one of the projects adopted by UBSS to provide various health services to the poor people living in tribal, rural & slum areas. A brief description of the projects undertaken are given below.
1. SUSHRUTA SWASTHYA SEBA PRKALPA-SSSP(Mobile Health Unit)

This noble initiative has been undertaken during the year 2002-03 to mitigate the sufferings of the poor of the poorest with mobile Medical unit. This unit is comprised of one medical expert along with 2 other assistants with one Ambulance. The prime job of the unit under review is to bring the health service at the door step of the people in the inaccessible areas to render them relief . It is needless to mention that its turn out is really highly commendable and need based intensive service for the poor. This unit provides free consultancy and medicines. Presently, we are providing health services in 6 Districts of
Orissa.

2 SUSHRUTA SWASTHYA SAHAYATA KENDRA (Patient Aid Center)
This unit has been working since last 4 years in different leading Medical Colleges and Medicals to help the poor and ignorant helpless patients for their treatment and early recovery. This unit has gone a long way away in the bygone days for their admission, Surgery, Blood Infusion, in addition to the free Medicine supply arranged by the organization from different sources. For the sincerity and the devotion of the unit the medical service has been geared up to the maximum for the betterment of the poor patients. The volunteers maintain the vigil round the clock for such herculean task. Presently we are working in 5 premier medical colleges of Orissa.

3. “SEVA”-The multipurpose treatment center
We have established a multipurpose treatment center in Bhubaneswar which provides treatment services of physiotherapy, acupressure, naturopathy &, homoeopathy. It works as a keystone in Orissa to support this kind of service spread all over Orissa by the organization.
India as a land of culture and scientific development is of centuries old. The sages and saints device the ways and means for healthy living by way of performing “Yoga” in the eco friendly environment. In view of this concept to enhance the longevity of life and healthy living, This project also extends a Yoga center for promising better living of the people.

COORDINATION MEETING OF VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS
A Coordination meeting of National Volunteer Organisations was organised by UBSS on 18.12.2011 at Mancheswar, Bhubaneswar. Representatives of 17 Organisations were participated.

SEVA WORK IN SAMBALPUR & BARAGARH DISTRICTS
i.CLEANING OF MATERNITY HOSPITAL CAMPUS, SAMBALPUR

The campus of Maternity Hospital, Sambalpur was cleaned by the volunteers of UBSS on 11.12.2011. The cleaning work was successfully completed under the supervision of Sri Hrushikesh Nag.

i i.OBSERVATION OF HANDICAPPED AWARENESS DAY
Handicapped Awareness day was observed on 03.12.2011 in association with R. J. Orthopaedics at Burla. On this occasion, an awareness rally & meeting was organised in which hundreds of Handicapped participated.

iii.PARIVAR MILAN (Family Get-Together )
A family get-together function was organised by UBSS, Sambalpur Zone at Sri Jagannath Niketan (Orphanage), Pardhiapali on 27.11.2011.

BLOOD DONATION CAMP
A blood donation camp was organised on 09.10.2011 by UBSS at Mancheswar, Bhubaneswar on the occasion of “Gopabandhu Jayanti”. 24 units of blood were collected from the volunteers.

FREE 7 DAYS’ NATUROPATHY & YOGA TREATMENT-CUM- AWARENESS CAMP (26.09.11 – 02.10.11)
A “7 Days’ Naturopathy & Yoga Treatment -cum -Awareness Camp” was organised at Bhubaneswar by our Baburao Paldhikar Nature Cure & Research Center, Bhubaneswar (an unit of UBSS) by the sponsorship of National Institute of Naturopathy (NIN), Pune.

A BRIF REPORT OF SEVA WORK IN ODISHA DURING FLOOD-SEPTEMBER, 2011

“SEVA” DURING “RATH YATRA” AT PURI (FROM 03.07.2011 TO 12.07.2011)
On the occasion of Ratha Yatra at Puri, the following services were provided from 03.07.2011 to 12.07.2011 (Gundicha Yatra to Suna Besha).
i. Health Camp (health check up & medicine distribution)

v Cleaning & Sanitation

50-60 of devotees were treated daily and given medicines at the health camp by 10 doctors, paramedical staff & volunteers. 250 volunteer assisted the Govt. administration in cordon service to the three Raths of the Deities. Similarly 30 volunteers were engaged in cleaning & sanitation work everyday during the festival and 30 volunteers in cleaning & sanitation work. More than 500 hundred devotees were benefited by our information center.

7 DAYS’ FREE NATUROPATHY & YOGA TREATMENT-CUM-AWARENESS CAMP (01.05.11 – 07.05.11)
A 7 Days’ Naturopathy & Yoga Treatment cum Awareness Camp was organised at Bhubaneswar by our Baburao Paldhikar Nature Cure & Rersearch Center, Bhubaneswar (an unit of UBSS) by the sponsorship of National Institute of Naturopathy (NIN), Pune.

SEVA DURING FESTIVAL
i. CAMP AT KAKATPUR (19.04.2011)
A camp was organized at Kakatpur on 19.04.2011 on the occasion of “Jhamu Yatra” which provided following services to the devotees. 12 volunteers & 1 doctor along with other paramedical staff were engaged.

iii) Information Center
Around 500 devotees were treated & given medical aid by the volunteers, doctors & assistants. Thousands of people were also benefited by the Information Center.

BLOOD DONATION & HEALTH CAMP AT BURLA (14.04.2011)
A Blood Donation Camp was organised at Laderpali, Barge on 14.04.2011. 55 units of blood collected from the camp.
A Health Camp was also organised by Sushruta Swasthya Sahayata Kendra, Burla.

MEGA HEALTH CAMP AT CHAKAPAD (05.03.11-06.03.11)
A mega health camp was organised at Chakapad (Kandhamal) on 5th & 6th March 2011. A total of 3216 patients were treated and given medicines free of cost with the help of 30 doctors & 30 paramedical staff from different depts. like medicine, O&G, paediatric, eye, ENT, skin, dental etc. 40 volunteers assisted the health camp.

ANNUAL FUNCTION OF MATRUNILAYA (Orphanage)
The 4th annual function of Matrunilaya, Cuttack was observed on 12.02.2011 at sector-12, CDA , Cuttack under the presidentship of Sri Binod Dash. Mananiya Sri V. Gopala Gowda, Hon’ble Chief Justice of Odisha High Court was present as the Chief Guest. Sri Kishore Mohanty, Collector & District Magistrate Cuttack and Sri Abhaya Charan Nayak, Income Tax Commisioner, Cuttack as the Guest of Honours were present on this occasion. The Chief Guest appreciated the various works done by the organization. He also made an
appeal to the General public to assist the Organisation selflessly in every aspect. The website of the organization http://www.matrunilay.org was inaugurated by the Chief Guest on this occasion. The Chief speaker Mananiya Harihar Nanda, All India Coordinator, Hindu Jagaran Manch spoke about the importance of mothers for the children in the society. The Guest of Honor Sri Abhaya Charan Nayak donated cash on the occasion & appealed all to give every type of assistance to the Organisation. The inmates of Matrunilaya performed a cultural programme to make the function entertaining & successful.
