A Rapturous Night with the Divine – Mahashivarathri

” Shiva means the Auspicious One,

settled in Ananda, Bliss, Final Beatitude,
that lies beyond the trappings of a mind
caught in mundane desires and fears.
Worship and celebration of Him – the Divine
Personification of That Ananda, Bliss,
Final Beatitude is Mahashivaratri.
Happy Shivaratri to all my friends… “

Maha-Sivaratri” is a Hindu festival observed on the night of the fourteenth day of the dark half in the month of ‘Magha’, in Tamil ‘Maasi’, corresponding to the English months ‘February—March’, in honour of Siva, one of the Hindu Trinity, representing the destructive aspect in the universe.Though generally, the night time is considered sacred and suitable for the worship of the feminine aspect of’ the deity and the day time for that of’ the masculine, yet on this particular occasion Siva is worshipped during the night time, and as a matter of fact, it is specially enjoined to be observed then. The observance of the Vratha is believed to secure for the devotee immunity from the eftects of sin committed either wittingly or unwittingly. The night is divided into four quarters, each quarter going by the name of a Jama called also Yama and pious people keep awake during every one of it , worshipping Iswara.

It is said that the whole world was under destruction once and the Goddess Parvati worshipped her husband Siva then and prayed to him that the Jivas (living souls) remaining in space like particles of gold dust in a lump of wax during that long period of pralaya (deluge) night, should, when they became active once again and are in the enjoyment of their short day and night, have his blessings if they but worshipped him just as she did then, and her prayer was accordingly granted. The night fixed for the worship of Iswara by mortals by Parvati was named Maha-Sivaratri or the great night of Siva, since pralaya is brought about by him and hence the period is really his night from the great night or pralaya which was the cause for the origin of this Sivaratri.

The people who observe this Sivaratri- Vratha take only single meal during the day previous to the Vratha day and sleep in clean place during the night. In the morning of the Vratha day they take a bath in the waters of a sacred river, and then go to witness the divine worship in a Siva temple, and at night offer worship to Siva during every one of the four Yamams. Night long vigil on Sivaratri day, watching the sacred ablutions of Siva Linga at the temple,is the core of the Sivaratri festival. The Rudra Japa Abhisheka of Siva Linga resounds the multifacted glory of Lord Siva, who is also called Asutosh or One who is easily pleased by copius ablutions with water, the cheapest available commodity. We should remember that water in essence is Prana Sakti or life force. Such an observance of Siva Ratri will really bestow on the devotee the greatest grace of Lord Siva, the auspicious knowledge of Atma Jnana. Besides the devotee is also blessed with material prosperity the items of which are beautifully listed in the ChamakaMantra uttered on this occasion.

There is also a myth emphasizing the importance of the worship of Siva during the Sivaratri night and it is in brief as follows :

Once there was a hunter, and he one day went into the forest to procure meat for his family by hunting some animal. He wandered up and down in the forest from morning till night in search of game but was unable to shoot any. At last, when night overtook him, he climbed up a Bael tree to escape from a wild animal that was pursuing him, being roused from its lair by the hunter. The animal was lying down at the foot of the tree quite certain that the man would fall down either from sleep or from exhaustion, and that he might eat him. The hunter, exhausted as he was from his exertions and hunger, wished to scare away the animal by throwing handful of bael leaves. These leaves dripping with water on account of the recent shower, fell on a Siva-Lingam that was near. The night happened to be the Maha-Sivaratri night. He had fasted during the whole day since he could not find anything to eat. The drenching rain constituted a bath and his action of throwing the bael leaves on the Siva-Lingam, the worship of Siva on the Sivaratri night. Though his actions were not intentional to worship Siva, yet he is said to have gained heaven as he had observed the Sivaratri – Vratha unwittingly.

The basic principle underlying the observance of the Maha-Sivaratri Vratha appears to be to emphasize the fact that death is sure to follow birth, night is sure to follow day,Pralaya, active cosmic life and so on, and consequently people should always bear in mind while enjoying the one its opposite and regulate their life accordingly. They should not be elated at success nor should they allow themselves to be carried away by despair at failures but always have trust in God and worship him.

                                                The release from samsâra means,
according to Sankara, the absolute merging
of the individual soul in Brahman, due
to the dismissal of the erroneous notion
that the soul is distinct from Brahman; according
to Râmânuga it only means the soul’s passing from
the troubles of earthly life into a kind of heaven
or paradise where it will remain for ever in
undisturbed personal bliss.–As Râmânuga does
not distinguish a higher and lower Brahman, the
distinction of a higher and lower knowledge is
likewise not valid for him; the teaching of the
Upanishads is not twofold but essentially one, and

leads the enlightened devotee to one result only.

Sri Vivekananda Maharogi Arogya Kendram, Rajahmundry (Andhra Pradesh)

Sri Vivekananda Maharogi Arogya Kendram, Rajahmundry
With the sole aim of supporting severely disabled leprosy people and their kith and kin who have no other option except to live along with the patients, Sri Vivekananda Maharogi Arogya Kendram was established in 1975 with the initiative of late Dr Mandalvilli Mallikarjuna Rao of Rajahmundry town with the active cooperation of Ramesh Kumar Jain and his friends. The then District Collector encouraged the cause by allotting 11 acres of land to the kendram. The kendram was registered in 1978 under the societies act.

At Kakinada, Rajahmundry and in the nearby villages of these towns, a number of activities have been undertaken such as financial aid, providing medical assistance to old and disabled leprosy affected people. At Bommuru village, near Rajahmundry town, Sri Vivekananda Hospital has been set up since 2002. Around 500 families from 10 surrounding villages of Bommuru are getting benefitted. The medicines are also supplied free of cost.

Besides villagers, around 100 leprosy affected people living in Sri Vivekananda Maharogi Arogya Kendram and 100 leprosy patients living in the surrounding villages are also receiving medical treatment at the hospital. A retired civil surgeon is rendering his valuable services to the hospital. Along with the allopathic treatment, homoeopathic treatment is also being provided. Two experienced doctors are rendering their dedicated services.

Activities:

Right from the beginning, around 100-120 patients are being supported by the kendram by providing shelter, food, medical aid, footwear, clothes and all other necessary amenities. Nursery seedlings are being grown under the scheme of Social Forest Department. Tobacco nursery is being maintained in partnership with local farmers. The kendram has 13 coir machines provided by Coir Board. The inmates and some other people are undergoing training in the preparation of coir thread. Occasional speeches on our culture, history, are being arranged. A Bal Sanskar Kendra for children is being run. All Hindu festivals are celebrated in the kendram.

Infrastructure:

In the beginning, the inmates used to live in thatched huts. In 1983 Andhra Pradesh Government got 50 houses constructed under RLEGP scheme. After 20 years when those houses were getting dilapidated the then state government sanctioned 40 houses under Indira Awas Yojana and got them constructed immediately in 2002-03. Presently, 120 people are getting assistance from the kendram. Among them, 100 are inmates and the others are outsiders. Among the inmates, 80 of them are patients and the remaining 20 are their dependent children.

Agricultural land of around 3 acre is allotted so that every able-bodied individual has the satisfaction that he is also contributing to the welfare of the inmates by generating some income.
A community hall in the memory of Sri Gopalrao Thakur and Surya Mandiram (Sun temple) were constructed in 1996-97 to conduct cultural, philosophical and spiritual activities. Goshala is being maintained with 12 cows so that the inmates can worship Mother Cow in accordance with the Hindu belief that leprosy will never afflict a cow worshipper in their future lives.

Moulding character through service – Vaidehi Seva Samiti (Andhra Pradesh)

Moulding character through service – Vaidehi Seva Samiti (Andhra Pradesh)
VAIDEHI KISHORI VIKAS YOJANA  :

Children moving around with untidy and scantly clad clothes, open drain overflowing, this is the common scene when one visits the unlimited slums irrespective of their geographical locations. Such unhygienic setting spreads disease and robs the slum dwellers of their precious hard-earn income. Also one more observation made by Seva bharathi volunteers is that any activity can sustain only if it is taken up and owned by the local people. Even after half a century of freedom we have such slums in the cities which should be engines of development. But they today end up as undeveloped islands of poverty, diseases and unemployment.
There are an approximate 400 and odd slums in the twin cities, after a detailed survey and observative study is the Vaidehi Kishori Vikas Yojana. The scheme shall have its administrative headquarters at Vaidehi Seva samithi, Saidabad and launched by Sri Sitaram Kedaliya, Akhila bharatha Seva pramukh in Jan ‘05. This is an effort to bring self reliance, health, education and awareness to the young and the old alike in the slums. The young volunteers in the age group 12-18 and especially girls shall be selected and trained, to equip them with information as well as the motivation to be the catalyst for the change.

In the first phase of the scheme 25 youth are selected and trained in Vocational skills, informal schooling, literacy campaigns, health and hygiene, good food habits and diet, Simple physical work out including Yoga. Simple educative and entertaining stories, songs, folk arts etc., are also part of volunteers training. The scheme demands 3 hours of daily volunteering when he / she shall make 3 visits to the allotted slums. The young volunteer goes about building relationships as well as bridges towards development and shall grow as a nucleus for development activities.
There are 6 matajis (wardens) to look after and to care the ashram girls.7/8 retired voluntaries will come to ashram daily and share the work of the ashram .One will see the education of the children, one will maintain the accounts, the other will take care the health of the children, purchases provisions, stationery etc and they receive the guest show the building and the ashram girls and explain them about they secrete work of Vaidehi Ashram.

Out of total 112 girls 22 girls are college students .The elder girls of our ashram who are studying college also share the duties of ashram. There also help them in their studies and preparing food and other necessary works.

On 15th August 2013 one of the ashram girl named P.Umadevi who has completed her diploma, MBA married to Shravan  completed his B.Tech and working as a Software Engineer in TCS. With this 17 marriages are performed in the ashram.
Vaidehi Seva Samiti was started in Hyderabad in 1993. The prime objective has been to adopt the girls from 5-9 years of age who have no family and no shelter. It brings them up in a very congenial atmosphere assuring them love and affection which they rightly deserve. The Samiti develops in them a sense of patriotism and discipline and a feeling of love for life and values. A respect for Bharatiya culture and traditions is also inculcated among them. Finally they are provided with all the opportunities and help E lead a decent life.

To achieve these objectives a small Ashram with 3 rooms was started in 1993. Later, with donations from the society, the Samiti built its own three-story building which can accommodate 150 girls in the premises of 1750 sq. yards at Saraswati Nagar in Hyderabad.Presently the Vaidehi Seva Samiti runs three major projects—Vaidehi Ashram (Nirashrita Balika Vasati Griham), Vaidehi Kishori Vikas Yojana, (Development Project for Adolescent Girls of Slums) and Vaidehi Mahila Vikas Yojana (Development Project for Poor and Neglected Women).

All these projects are managed by separate Executive Bodies constituted by the Samiti. Vaidehi Seva Samiti has been recognised by the Women and Child Welfare Department of Andhra Pradesh Government.

One of the girls is studying in B.tech 3rd year, one in B.Sc final year, one in nursing and one is practicing weight lifting in a reputed sports school of Vijayawada. Three girls have completed diploma in civil engineering and are doing apprentice. The other six girls are studying in Polytechnic Colleges in Hyderabad, Suryapet and Nizamabad. Apart from this formal education they are also taught fine arts like music, painting, dance and handicrafts like embroidery, tailoring, screen printing. Physical exercises like Karate, yogasan and Surya Namaskar are regularly. 66 The girls are imparted training for overall development and to enable theni to be responsible citizens of the country. They are not only educated and trained but are also provided with sufficient opportunities to lead an independent life. The Ashram has also taken the responsibility to arrange and conduct the marriage of the grown up girls.

They are also exposed to special personality courses conducted by eminent persons. Daily one hour shakha of Rashtra Sevika Samiti is also held which helps them to acquire courage, patriotism and attitude of service to others. Thus, the residents of the Ashram are given training for overall development and enable them to be responsible citizens of the country. The girls are not only educated and trained but are also provided with sufficient opportunities to lead an independent life. The Ashram has also taken the responsibility to arrange and conduct marriages of the grown up girls. As of now the Ashram has taken care of marriages of 10 Ashram girls during the last ten years.

Vaidehi Kishori Vikas Yojna Under this project, 50 slum areas have been selected to impart training in various aspects to adolescent girls with special emphasis on education, health and hygiene, cultural development and samskars. This training helped them starting self-employment. Vaidehi Mahila Vikas Yojna Under this project, economically deprived women are imparted various kinds of training like computer, fashion designing, embroidery work, etc. so as to make them economically self-reliant. Telugu Association of Metro Atlanta (TAMA) conducted a scholarship examination on June 28, 2009. It awarded scholarship to 21 Ashram girls. This programme was attended by several dignitaries and eminent persons. Board members of an organisation of retired IAS and IFS officers visited the Ashram on July 26, 2009. They sponsored one year education expenses of nine girls of the Ashram studying polytechnic.

The Ashram is frequently visited by doctors from various medical colleges to guide and help maintain the health of the Ashram girls. Annual function Annual function is organised every year.

All visitors and donors are invited in the function. As of now 17, such functions have been conducted. These events are presided over by high profile people like High Court judges, IAS and IPS Officers, philanthropist’s etc. In the event, vocal, cultural and patriotic performances are given by the Ashram girls. Yogasan and Karate abilities of girls are also demonstrated. The iperformances are applauded and appreciated by one and all.

Grand daughters perform last rites of Granny
Daughters are still regarded as burden in some families. They take the birth of a girl in the family as a curse. Majority of the people feel that girls cannot perform any ritual. hi such an atmosphere, performing last rites of grand mother by the grand daughters is an admirable step in the male-dominated society. In order to establish the involvement of girls in rituals, the last journey of grand mother was taken out on the shoulders of the grand daughters in Gaya, Bihar.

People wish for a son due to superstitions and male-dominance in the society. But now some people have started a campaign to change this mentality. When Sugia Devi (86) of Vidhi village under Barachatti police station (Gaya district) died, her last rites were performed by her two grand daughters. Sugia Devi was the mother of Prof. Ramkrishna Yadavv.

He encouraged his two daughters Neelam and Swikriti to perform the last rites. They not only carried the dead body on their soldiers but also performed the last rites. All family members of Prof. Yadav were present at that time. There are some families who indulge in foeticide due to superstitions. Prof. Yadav shows the way by allowing his daughters to perform last rites of his mother. Before inspiring others he started this campaign from his own house.

”All girls are well dressed, appeared to be very happy and looked to be well treated. These children possessed excellent self- confidence in themselves and in their future”

Vaidehi Ashram run by Sevabharati is an affection home (when all of us are hero to care of them, who can dare to call it an orphanage) for the destitute Girls.

Children start their day at 5:30 am with fresh-up and chanting their morning hymns in a single tone. Then at 6:30 am a small physical workout with a blend of yoga and exercise. Then they get ready to school with their lunch box.
Again at 4:45 pm the ashram comes alive with the children’s playfulness. At 5:30 pm they come out after their snacks for a drill and games. Then at 8:00pm they sit for dinner, later homework and study hour. At 10pm lights off with the chant of shanti mantra.

Emphasis on complete personality development – Sri Nivedita Niketan, Hosur

Take a walk down your memory lane. Do you remember the laughter echoing in your classrooms, discussing your dreams with friends during the break, the prizes you won and the games you played? The life indeed was carefree and fun then.

Just for a minute, think about the children who have dreams in their eyes and the desire to excel themselves to get a basic education that would pave their way to a bright self-sufficient future but they cannot afford it.

There is where you can help. A gesture could make these children responsible, self-sufficient citizens of the country besides turning them into self-respecting individuals. A cause to give back something to the society of which you are an integral part.

With these objectives Sri Nivedita Niketan was started in June 1998 with the blessings of her holiness Sri Ramaparna Mataji, president of Sri Sarada Mutt, Chennai in the presence of the then Deputy Collector of Hosur Sushri Apoorva.

Sri Nivedita Sewa Trust runs this Ashram under the guidance and support of Sewa Bharati, Tamil Nadu. The objective of the Ashram is to take care of destitute girls in accordance with Bharatiya traditions and culture. The Niketan is a home for destitute girls and women from Tamil Nadu and the neighbouring states. So far, 59 children have enjoyed the love and care of this Niketan. Many revisit even after leaving the Ashram. At present there are 25 children in the Niketan, which has been a mother’s home for them.

So far, five inmates got married with the blessings and wishes of the well wishers of Sewa Bharati. Their welfare including pre-natal care, child birth etc., is taken care of in accordance with the Indian traditions, as is done at one’s home.

True to the traditions of service for which the Niketan stands for, some of the inmates of the Niketan did exemplary service during tsunami disaster. One of the inmates who also served as care taker, stayed in Vannivayal village in Ramanathapuram district serving the victims despite severe skin allergy due to water contamination. She continued her service activities even after her marriage along with her husband.

Family counselling services are also provided to resolve family and marital problems thus playing a small role in the upliftment of the society.

Sri Nivedita Niketan is run by like minded volunteers and well wishers, who support in various fotms. Earlier in the initial stages, the Ashram used to go to the door steps of the public and ask for rice, dal and other essential commodities. But later the people started donating on their own and now in the present scenario the service minded people have started sharing their happiness on their birthdays and anniversaries by celebrating them with the children in Niketan and sponsoring them the food and sweets. Today, a large number of good hearted people have taken initiative and regularly support by providing dresses, uniforms, books and other essential items required by girls.

Some homemakers spare their valuable time and take tuitions and some provide monetary assistance while some doctors provide free medical care. Some look after the maintenance work while some people spare their special occasions by giving food and clothes to the children. Some give joy by just visiting them often.

The Niketan also extended support to the villages located in the interior of Hosur by adopting four schools and helping the students in their educational needs by providing them books, uniform and other facilities.

Extra curricular activities form part of the children’s daily routine. They are taught Sanskrit, Hindi, spoken English, Awing, hand writing, dance, yoga, etc. Life skills such as tailoring, cover irking etc are also taught to the girls. Special camps on Indian culture and wines, personality development are ducted, and inmates of the Ashram allo interact with other children.

Festivals form integral part of the illitetan’s activities. Navaratri, Diwali, Ilogal and other important festivals are adebrated grandly with new clothes, =wets and crackers. Children invite all wishers to take part in the orkbrarions. Thus the Ashram makes dir dreams of the children a reality.

The Niketan was earlier being run in a rented building. Now the children are enjoying in their own home located at Narasamma Colony, Opposite New Bus stand in Hosur. This new building was inaugurated in October 2009 by the then Collector of Krishnagiri District Shri V.K. Shanmugam in the presence of Shri Sundar Lakshman, the then national coordinator of Rashtriya Sewa Bharati.

Ground floor with a big dining hall, living room and computer room is under construction with an estimate of Rs.75 lakh, which is yet to be completed. Apart from it, the Niketan also extended support to the villages located in the interior of Hosur by adopting four schools and helping them in their educational needs by providing books, uniforms and other facilities. This is the growth of the Niketan in the past 12 years.

Webmaster Services.

Alexa has created a series of tools specifically for web site owners(blogger). These tools can help us to drive trafficmake money, find broken links and more!

Finding patterns in data

The Alexa services are derived from our uniquely powerful combination of Web content and usage information.

Site stats :Alexa gathers Site Stats from a variety of sources to provide key statistics about each site on the web. These include: Traffic Rank and Speed which are derived from Web usage information, and Other sites that link to this site, and Online Since, both of which come from Web content. For an example of Site Stats, see the Alexa Overview page for LOVE DROPS

Contact info: Alexa provides contact information for Web sites by mining for Web content gathered in the crawl. This information includes Site Owner, Address, Phone Number and contact e-mail address. See Contact Info for LOVE DROPS

Traffic details:Web usage information is utilized to provide information about the number of page views and number of users that Web sites receive. This data is also the basis for the Alexa traffic rank and traffic history graphs. See Traffic Details for LOVE DROPS.Our goal for these features is to help people navigate the Web more efficiently by giving them all the information they need to make informed decisions about the sites they visit.

Related Links:Whenever an Alexa Toolbar user visits a web page, the Alexa Toolbar retrieves information from the Alexa servers to suggest other pages that might be of interest to the user. To generate Related Links, we use several techniques, including:
  • The usage paths of the collective Alexa community- this is the most important source of our information, since these paths show us which web sites our users believe are important and interesting.
  • Clustering – the hundreds of millions of links on the Web can be used to find clusters of sites that are similar and relevant to one another. We mine this data by using custom databases to find and identify these clusters.
  • Users’ suggestions – we consider our users’ suggestions to augment our Related Links recommendations.

Regular Health Mistakes

Regular Health Mistakes
Crossing our legs
Do you cross your legs at your knees when sitting? Although we may believe that this is the lady-like elegant way to sit, sitting this way cuts down circulation to your legs.

If you don’t want varicose veins to mar the beauty of your legs and compromise your health, uncross your legs every time you realize you have one knee on top of the other. The best way to sit is to simply place both legs together on the floor, balancing your weight equally. If you feel like changing position, instead of crossing your legs, simply move both legs together to one side. As an alternative, you could also consider crossing your legs loosely at the ankles. This is a classically elegant way to sit, and is far better for your legs and your health than sitting with your legs crossed at your knees.

Not changing our toothbrush
How often do you change your toothbrush? Most of us wait until most of the bristles have either fallen off, or are in such bad shape that we’d be embarrassed to pull out our brush in public. However, since not many of us need to pull out our brush in public, we carry on with our frayed one until we lose it. Replace your toothbrush often. Damaged bristles can harm the enamel, and don’t massage your gums well. If you find brushing your teeth a pain like I do, but know you must do it, you might as well be doing it right. Imagine going through the annoyance of brushing your teeth twice a day only to find out that you’re damaging your enamel every time you clean your teeth. Also, use a brush with soft bristles unless your dentist has advised otherwise.

Eating out often
There are oils that are high in cholesterol, and oils that cause little harm and are better for your heart. However, no matter how light the oil is, it is never a good idea to eat too much of it. Avoid fried foods. Remember that in all probability your favorite Indian food restaurant throws a huge, HUGE chunk of butter in a tiny bowl of dal. Rita, who worked in the kitchen of a 5 star hotel, was shocked when she saw the cook chop a 500gm butter slab in half, and throw half into a Paneer Makhani dish. No wonder the customers left licking their fingers. And no wonder they felt so stuffed and heavy afterwards. Limit outdoor eating unless you know that you”re getting served light and healthy food.

Skipping breakfast
Never, ever skip breakfast. Remember, when you wake up in the morning it’s been around 10-12 hours since your last meal. Your body needs food now, more than at any other time. Eat a heavy breakfast. You will then be busy through the day, and the calories will get expended quickly. If you are trying to diet, eat a light dinner. Here are some more common health mistakes we make. Being informed and making a few changes can help make us feel a whole lot better.

High heels
High heels sure look great, but they’re murder for your back. This however doesn’t mean you should steer clear of stilettos. Wear them, but not when you know you will be walking around a lot. Wear them when going out for lunch or dinner – when the only walking you will be doing is to your car, to the table, and back. Avoid high heels when you are going somewhere on foot. If you are constantly tempted to wear your heels, take a good look at your flats. Is there something about them you dislike? Invest in a new pair of beautiful flats or shoes with a low heel. Buy something you love, that you will enjoy wearing. If possible, get a matching bag. You will then enjoy your flats as much as you do your heels.

Sleeping on a soft bed
You don’t have to sleep on the floor be kind to your back, but do make sure you have a firm mattress. Although a mattress on springs is soft and lovely to sink into, it’s bad for your back. If you already have an old bed with springs, you don’t need to invest in a new one – simply get a thick wooden plank put over the springs, and place the mattress on the plank. Similarly, if your mattress is old and lumpy, throw it out and get a new one. Your neck and your back will thank you. The same rule applies to sofas. If you will be spending hours on a sofa, get a firm yet comfortable one. Sofas you completely sink into are not the best idea.

Pillows
No matter how comfortable sleeping with ten cushions is, have pity on your neck and resist. Sleep with one pillow, and make sure it is not too thick. If your pillow gets lumpy, discard it and go for a new one. Get a thin pillow if you sleep on your stomach, and something a little thicker if you sleep on your back, to give your neck adequate support

Not exercising
So all of us know we should exercise more, but many of us don’t. This is a health mistake we consciously make! And why is that? Simply because we refuse to admit the damage we are causing to our bodies by not working out. A number of people only start working out once they’ve experienced a warning signal. Don’t wait for a heart attack to strike before you decide to opt for a lifestyle change. Make the change now. You don’t need to train for the marathon to be in top shape. Half an hour of brisk walking three to four times a week will make a world of difference to your health. You could then increase this to forty minutes, four times a week – and you’re all set. If you haven’t exercised for a week, you’re making a mistake.
